Model Answer 1:

What is it?
There are a lot of skills that I wish to learn. However, there is one skill that I know well, and I am able to teach others. That is the ‘mindful breathing skill.’ Mindful breathing is a very basic yet powerful meditation technique. The idea is to simply focus your attention on your breathing, to its natural rhythm and flow and the way it feels on inhaling and exhaling. This skill is becoming more and more popular due to its countless advantages.

How you learnt it?
I learned this skill two years ago, in my practical yoga class from my yoga teacher. The purpose of this skill is to concentrate on the present moment so that we can let go of worrying about the past and the future. Such breathing technique reduces anxiety, helps with pain reduction, manages stressful thoughts, and decreases negative thinking. It is a useful, powerful, and life-changing skill.

How can you teach others this skill?
I can teach this skill personally by demonstrating to a small group about the different ways of mindful breathing. I do not need any equipment for it. I can teach this in a garden or in a classroom. It is also possible to teach this skill online. I have also made my videos to teach this skill to my friends who are away, and I can’t meet them. I can teach practical as well as explain the theoretical benefits of mindful breathing. I have taught this to many.

How do you feel about this skill?
Whenever I practice this skill myself, I feel relaxed and rejuvenated. I have learnt to let go and forgive others. My faith in God is reassured, and I feel positive and happier than before. I feel that I should teach this skill to as many people as I know so that more people can get benefits of this skill as well. I also believe that this skill should be taught in school so that children can learn to manage their tensions and tough emotions. I feel lucky that I know this skill.

IELTS Speaking Part 3 : Follow up Questions

Here some examples of follow up questions that you may asked during your speaking part 3 by examiner related to cue card “describe a skill that you can teach other people”.

1. Should teachers be funny when they teach?
Humour is a universal communication phenomenon, and people tend to seek others who make them laugh. However, the classroom is not typically associated/ has no relation with laughter or humorous interaction. Education has always traditionally been thought of as a serious undertaking, but if a teacher has a good sense of humour and friendly nature, it can improve the relationship of a teacher with their student. Students can share their problems without any hesitation. But more friendly nature may disturb the class discipline.
OR
Yes, I think teachers should employ the use of humour while teaching. It lightens the class atmosphere and improves the relationship between students and teachers. In other words, students feel comfortable discussing their doubts and problems with the teachers. However, teachers must learn when to be strict; otherwise, it can impact classroom discipline.

2. What qualities should teachers have?
A teacher can make a world of difference in a student’s life, that impacting everything means from their classroom learning to their long term success. Good teachers are strong communicators. By effective communication, a teacher can explain a subject very well. A teacher should be a good listener The teacher should understand and listen to the student’s problem before giving any decision. Good teachers should be adaptable means; they have the quality to adjust in any environment.
OR
Firstly, I think the most important skill that teachers should have is good communication skills. They need to understand how to teach in simple words. Secondly, they should be good observers. They need to be able to pick up the fears and anxieties students have. Only then they can build their confidence. Finally, teaching is about patience. Teachers need to be ready to explain the concepts repeatedly if their students are facing any difficulty.

3. Which do you think are more important practical skills or academic skills?
I think they are dependent on each other. If we have theoretical knowledge, then we can easily do it practically. But if we know or learn only one skill, then our study is incomplete.
OR
Practical skills and academic skills have their own importance. I think it depends upon the person’s profession. If a person wants to be a teacher, a lawyer, or anything in academics, they need to be an expert in academics. However, in other fields like business, communication skills etcetera, are more important.

4. Which age group is the best age for learning?
According to my perception, a person can learn new thing at any age because it makes the mind more active and up to date. For example, nowadays we use many new technological equipment types daily compared to past, so elders must learn new techniques because new methods make their work easy and save time. Another fact is that child age is the best age to learn new things.
OR
I am a strong believer in the fact that there is no age for learning. We can learn anything at any age. And actually, I believe that we should keep learning new skills as it keeps the mind sharp and active.
