While some people argue that studying history has nothing to offer, others agree that studying history has an excellent opportunity to discover our past and use insight to shape our future. This article discusses both views, but this essay biased towards the latter view.
Studying history is a waste of time and energy, according to a group of people. Furthermore, they agree that studying technology and science can offer even more benefits to society and that knowledge can be used for future development. Literature, on the contrary, according to them, is hard to apply in everyday life. Science students, for example, can experiment and actually build useful tools and machines, and this can lead to a glorious potential development, whereas, significant pupils are expected to memorize past dates and events.
However, according to many others, this is not the whole picture. In addition to teaching us about past events, studying history always prepares us for the future. If they do not know why it happened in the first place, they cannot expect to avoid a big disaster. Ireland, for example, suffered potato blight in the 19th century, known as the Irish Potato Famine, and it occurred because Irish people were totally dependent on potatoes. If another crop had been planted, this might have been prevented. Nevertheless, people have learned a great lesson from this unfortunate history-cultivating a large variety of crops. Lastly, teaching history in school helps foster patriotism among young people that is very important for a bright future generation.
To conclude, people learn essential lessons from experience, and we must learn from our past that provides the most significant experience of all to create a prosperous nation. Scientific discoveries cannot offer a wide range of benefits without knowledge of history.
