Question Overview
Topic : Government and Tax
Type : Opinion
Model Answer 1 :
Needless to say that fast food affects the health of a human being. According to some people, it is essential to impose a high tax on junk food because it may discourage people from eating fast food. In my opinion, it will not work correctly, and I also explain some points which strengthen my viewpoint in the upcoming paragraphs.
To begin with, imposing a higher tax on fast food means an increase in price on commodities which directly affect the middle class and poor people. Moreover, people visit different junk food shops with family and friends and spend time with them so, if the price is increased, then they do not get time to spend with their near ones because whole time is consumed in preparing food. Eventually, if the government increase the tax on fast food, it will not affect the rich people they will continue to consume it.
On the other hand, there some other methods through which this problem could be solved. First is, decrease the prices of healthy food so that everyone, especially poor people, can easily afford it. Another solution is people who eat healthy food like fruits; vegetables motivates other people to eat healthy food rather than unhealthy food. In addition to this, parents should try that children do not go too fast food shops, so for that parents have to prepare some healthy meal at home. Last but not least, the government set the duties of some health advisors who organize camps in different areas and give information about healthy and unhealthy food and also explain the harmful impacts of fast food.
In conclusion, after analyzing all the points, it is clear that Imposing more tax on food is not only the solution because it will deter low-income groups from buying them. If the governments want to reduce the consumption of fast food, they should spread the awareness of self-discipline towards the eating pattern.
Model Answer 2 :
Few believe that if authorities impose a higher tax on junk food, it is going to motivate masses to consume food which is nutritious and beneficial to health. I assert that it may reduce the ingestion to some extend but not that much efficient means to steer the general public in their eating habits.
To begin with, the increase in the price of fast food is only going to impact the weaker segment of society. In other words, only poverty drive people will think to substitute their dishes because of this cost increase. The affluent course will last to go for their prefered choice; this means the only segment of society is going to be affected because of the high cost. Therefore, it is not the best answer to the issue. As opposed to accelerating the taxes government should attempt to teach the general public about the adverse effects of eating unhealthy meals by organising educational efforts.
Moving farther, the predominant reason behind this tendency of preferring ready to cook food is insufficient time. These days both female and male are functioning and career-oriented and do not have spare time to cook their meal so that they opt to packaged no matter at what price. However, the state can alter the eating habit of the public by making healthy food readily available so that it can be convenient to elect for freshly cooked foods. Even though, if the cost of healthy meals will be high individuals will pick them over unhealthy diets.
In summary, unequivocally putting higher taxation may bring several changes in the eating pattern and taste of the customer but not that far. Educating individuals about the health benefit of eating healthy food and making it readily available will probably be a better way to bring the shift.
