Model Answer 1:

Well, Many incidents happen in our life that bring a change in our personality or attitude.

What the change was? and When it happened?
And here I would like to talk about one incident that happen which brought a positive change in me. Well, The thing is that, very earlier I was very careless and I never used to do things on time, I was not punctual at all and I used to get late from school or other places.

I never used to do any work on time for which I often get punished. Though my parents tried to teach me the value of time but it had no effect on me. I vividly remember, my 10th class exams were on.

It was my mathematics exam, the next day but I was home alone as my parents were out of town for some family function. Which means I had to get up early in the morning on my own and t get ready for school. As per my habit, I kept on ‘ studying till late night and I couldn’t get up in the I morning and I was not ready for school in time.

I reached school almost 1 hour late and by the time, the exam had already started, I was in a real panic because I had to complete the 3-hour exam just in 2 hours. Since I was too stressed and traumatized because of that I couldn’t perform well in the exam.

How it happened?
Eventually, when the exam result was declared, I failed in the exam. I was extremely disappointed but I think, I learnt a very important lesson from this incident. From that day, I promised myself that I will be a punctual person from now onwards.

I will do everything on time. For that, my parents also helped me, my mother helped me in making a schedule for the day and I also started to keep a to-do list in my pocket. I always try to complete every work on time these days.

And In fact, by doing things on time, it helps me to save a lot of extra time which I can utilise on doing some of my favourite activities.

And explain why it was a positive change. and Conclusion:
In fact, on my recent birthday, my sister gifted me a watch because she knows that now I value time and now I frequently check the time as well.

Overall, it was the incident that helped me to bring a positive change in me.

Toddy, i would like to talk about an important change in my life.

What the change was?
It was about my course choices. I am very interested in fashion and have already selected some fashion-related courses. My friend made the same choice, but she also likes computers. After the 12th grade final, we went to several colleges related to fashion.

When it happened? and How it happened?
There was a problem occurred at my friend’s house. When she told her father that she is interested in fashion and already selected a course, her father got angry, because he did not like fashion courses.

In that situation friend took admitted to a computer course. In the pressure of friendship I also took admitted to the same course.

And explain why it was a positive change?
After a few weeks, I realized I couldn’t handle complex computer theory and decided to switch courses. A month later, I enrolled in a fashion course and felt very relaxed.

I think it was a positive change in my life because I might not have been able to get a bachelor’s degree if I hadn’t changed my course at the time, and my dream of opening a fashion boutique didn’t come true. Now, I run an online boutique and am very satisfied and happy.

IELTS Speaking Part 3 : Follow up Questions

Here some examples of follow up questions that you may asked during your speaking part 3 by examiner related to cue card “describe a positive change in your life”.

Q1. Is your country changing rapidly?
Yes, my country is changing rapidly. India is a developing country and is changing day-by-day for the better. With the advancement of technology it is stepping fast from a developing to a developed country. Change has always been happening, but technology has hastened the process of change.

Q2. How is your country changing?
I think my country is changing is many ways. Firstly, I can see the effect of globalisation, people are wearing western clothes, eating western cuisines and washing foreign shows more and more.
Secondly, people are also becoming modern in their thinking and views. Many wrong traditional practices like dowry are losing ground. Finally, we are developing in infrastructure and facilities. Many modern facilities fast internet connectivity , subways are accessible to people today. For me, most of the changes have been positive. But I think this is also due to the fact that I am optimist and I like to look at things from a positive side. Moreover, although I consider that most of the changes have been positive, some have happened at a slower pace than I had hoped.

Q3. Do you think change is good?
Well change can be both good and bad. It really depends upon on the change and why we are making the change. In the end, if we are changing for the right reasons, to make our ourselves better, then changing is definitely good. However, if we are being forced to change or if we are developing negative habits like drinking, smoking due to stress or peer pressure, I would consider it bad.

Q4. What are some of the major changes that usually occur to people in our lives?
I think changes occur throughout our life. First are the physical and hormonal changes which occur when we go through puberty like developing facial hair, deepening of voice and so on. Then, it is mental maturity, which occurs as we experience and face different things. We learn how to deal with issues and face challenges.

Q5. Is it important for people to make changes according to their surroundings?
Yes, I think there is no problem in changing according to surroundings as long we don’t feel like we are changing our identity because of these changes. For example, when in a foreign country, it is perfectly fine to try about foreign clothes and dishes. At the same time, if a person is a vegetarian, I wouldn’t consider it fine to try non-vegetarian just a fit in.
