IELTS Speaking Part 2: IELTS Cue Card

Describe a person who contributes to the society.

You should say:

Who this person is?
How you knew him/her?
What type of work he/she does?
And explain why you think he/she contributes to the society?

Note: You will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. You have one minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.

Model Answer 1:

Introduction: and Who this person is? and How you knew him/her?
It is quite unfortunate that most people are becoming self-centred Unit but still, there are some people who understand their responsibility and contribute towards society and the person I’m going to talk about is a famous Bollywood personality Sonu Sood who is a great social worker.

I feel proud that he is from my hometown Moga and is famous internationally for his good deeds.

What type of work he/she does?
Though he has been helping others for ages but got into the limelight during the corona pandemic. It was a time when people were in great fear due to the deadly virus unfortunately, it was a very tough time for daily wagers who lost their work during lockdown they were not able to make both ends meet and this was the time when Sonu Sood announced he would provide food and shelter to all the affected people.

And explain why you think he/she contributes to the society?
In addition, labourers who were working away from their hometowns and were not able to travel back because the public transport was not operational, he arranged hundreds of buses and helped thousands of migrant workers to meet their families.

In fact, he is highly active on social media and whosoever approaches him for help he never says ‘no’. Every time he visits my city he contributes in some way, for example, lately, he distributed bicycles to thousands of school-going girls to empower them.

Conclusion:
He great example for others to understand, their role towards society and I wish I too begone a social worker like him one day.


Model Answer 2:

In this highly competitive era, everyone is busy with their work and always trying to compete with others. Therefore, most people ignore social work. Despite, the hectic daily life, there are still many people in our society doing social work without expecting anything.

Today, I would like to talk about a person who has been doing social work for 10 years and wants to continue.

Who the person is? and How do you know him/her?
His name is Amit. we both graduated from the same institute. So I know him very well. He has helped others since his school days. He previously gave free tuition to poor and weak students at his home.

What type of work he/she does?
After completion of his graduation now he opened a small factory. About fifty employees are working under him. The work is based on garbage recycling.

He deals with waste paper and plastic material. both paper and plastic are easily recycled; both materials can be made into new products instead of sitting in a landfill.

Colourful paper, tissues, rest room paper and napkins are made via way of means of recycling waste paper in his factory. Plastic items which includes mats, bags also are made via way of means of his workers.

Why you think he/she contributes to the society?
I think waste recycling is the best way to reduce social waste. It is very beneficial not only to the environment but also to health. He holds a free medical camp every month, especially for the poor. In this camp, medicine, tests are free.

Conclusion:
So I think he is making a big contribution to society.

Introduction:

  • We live in a world which is full of people with different nature and attitudes.
  • Some individuals find joy in achieving success whereas some find bliss in helping others.
  • Today, I would like to talk about one such person whose life motto is to help others and fight for human rights.

Who this person is? and How you knew him/her?

  • His name is Prabloch Singh.
  • He is in his early thirties and is tall and handsome.
  • He has done his graduation in Computers and works with an IT company.
  • But after his work hours, he takes the role of a super hero where his mission is to help as many people as possible.

What type of work he/she does?

  • He is also the founder of a human rights organisation called Middle Finger Protests.
  • His journey for human rights and causes started when he was very young.
  • He helped in bringing justice for the family of an air hostess who was murdered in a bar by an influential person.

why you think he/she contributes to the society?

  • Even though he got many threats to his life, he continued his protests to fight for the justice
  • His role was also picturized in a movie called No one Killed Jessica.
  • Similarly, he has led various other protests to bring justice to other victims.
  • He also does a lot of charity and social work for people by organizing free food stalls and distributing clothes to the needy.
  • He has been awarded at national and International level for his contribution to humanitarian causes.
  • He has also represented India as an ambassador for Human Rights at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
  • The best thing about him is that he is not afraid of fighting for the right cause, even if he has to make a lot of sacrifices.
  • He is an inspiration for today’s generation.
  • When I talk about him, I feel motivated that I should also give back to the society.

IELTS Speaking Part 3 : Follow up Questions

Here some examples of follow up questions that you may asked during your speaking part 3 by examiner related to cue card “Describe a person who contributes to the society”.

1. Do people nowadays help others more than in the past?
There have been helpful people in every era and they use the means they can to help others in need. I believe that people have more means to help other people anywhere in the world because of technology. That was not possible in the past.

2. Who should teach children to help others? Parents or teachers?
Both parents and teachers share the responsibility to ensure that the children learn to help others. Parents should be role models for their and teachers can have lessons and activities in schools to inculcate/imbibe this value/virtue in children.

3. In what kind of professions do people help others more?
I think in all professions people help other directly or indirectly through their products and services. However, those working in the social/community service fields, like NGOs working to promote child education, women empowerment, and other such social issues, help others more.

4. Why are some people willing to help others?
People who are empathetic, sensitive, and compassionate are more willing to help others. These values are what they have seen and learned from their parents, teachers and other people around them while they are growing up.
